Repairs braking systems by adjusting or replacing brake shoes, hydraulic system components, including leaky master and wheels cylinders, air brakes, and disc brakes. Replaces and adjusts tracks, road wheels, road wheel bearings, idler wheels and bearings, oil seals, torsion and stabilizer bars, suspension arms, etc. Repairs and adjusts power and mechanical steering systems and differential and final drives including removing, disassembling, and/or replacing axle bearings and universal joints. Synchronizes duel engines with cross drive by adjusting linkage, timing, etc., with tachometer. Reassembles engines or power packs, adjusts and tests on test stand, and reinstalls in vehicle. 55%. Refuels vehicles used during the day. Checks drivers' trip tickets for notations of defects or required maintenance such as flat tires, weak battery, defunct lights, or other details of first echelon maintenance. Checks speedometer mileage against service record car mileage for periodic lubrication and servicing. Sets aside vehicles requiring further attention. Checks crankcase oil level and condition, adding oil to maintain proper level. Changes crankcase oil when visual inspection indicates it to be in poor condition, draining, flushing, and refilling with proper grade oil. Inspects oil filter cartridges and inserts new filters when necessary. Lubricates various engine and thesis parts and fittings with type of lubricant indicated by manual. Uses compressed air operated grease guns, oil sprays, and oil cans. Checks level of fluid in master brake cylinder, adding fluid as needed. Checks oil and grease level in transmissions and differentials, adding new oil or grease as needed or draining, flushing, and refilling as indicated by service record card. Replaces defective grease fittings, tightens loose nuts and bolts, and notes defects requiring attention of supervisor. Tests batteries, adds water, when necessary removes from vehicle and connects to charger line, and installs and connects replacement batteries. Services cooling systems by draining, flushing, adding water or anti-freeze as required, checking anti-freeze for proper temperature protection level. Washes, cleans, and polishes cars and trucks. Changes tires and repairs punctures. Checks tires for improper wear indicating improper balance or alignment. Occasionally uses mechanical wheel balancing device to add weights to bring wheels, in balance. Checks serviceability of spare tires. Replaces burned out light bulbs and units. Makes memo report to supervisor of mechanical defects or questionable conditions noted. Maintains record of work performed mileages, fuel and oil used, date of service, etc. 25% for minor amounts of time, works on automotive equipment and performs general housekeeping tasks as follows: Performs mechanical maintenance, overhaul, and repair of various makes, types, and sizes of passenger cars and trucks. Work is performed in the same manner as described above for engineering equipment. Serves as air conditioning worker for repair charging and recycling of Freon.
